Symptoms occur during the last week of most menstrual cycles and usually improve within a few days after the period starts. According to the research criteria in the DSM-IV, a woman may have PMDD if she has five or more of the following symptoms during the week before menstruating for most of her menstrual cycles in the last year.<br /><br />The symptoms of PMDD are as follows:<br /><br /> * Hypersomnia or insomnia<br /> * Feeling nervous, anxious, and irritable<br /> * marked depressed mood, and mood lability (crying spells for no reason)<br /> * Feeling of sadness or hopelessness, possible suicidal thoughts<br /> * Trouble concentrating<br /> * Panic Attacks<br /> * Decreased interest in usual activities<br /> * Marked appetite change, overeating, food cravings<br /> * lack of energy<br /><br />Physical symptoms of PMMD are as follows:<br /><br /> * bloating,<br /> * breast tenderness,<br /> * weight gain,<br /> * headaches, and<br /> * joint or muscle pain<br /><br />These symptoms can affect your relationships and work ability. If you have some of these symptoms 10 to 14 days before your period and they improve when your period starts, you might have PMDD.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br />I'm glad I have an answer now. I just wish I would have found it sooner. I'm a pretty happy go lucky person in general, except during these times and that's what hurt me the most. Not knowing why I was so sad, confused and irritated. This can be triggered to a new lifestyle. YOU GET WHAT I'M SAYIN, LADIES? If you got habits and feel this way, break em. So I was doing extensive cleaning... the works. I sorted all the clothes I didn't want anymore along with shoes and bags and put them in a large garbage bag. Hours later after working on the apt and such me and Erik took the bag to donate to the nearby church. The lady said "I don't think we really do anything like that..." WHAT?! This church has more homeless people sleeping outside of the church after hours than any other NY church I've seen... and they don't take any donations? So I said "Well, if the church won't help the people sleeping on God's doorstep for some kind of help or protection, I will." So I sat it in a corner of the church where I always see homeless people cubbied away. After dinner and I got ready for work I drove past the church and the bag was still there with a few items laying around it, but no one around it. So after a long and slightly strenuous night at work, we got the cab driver to drop us off at the side of the church. Surprisingly there was only one person sleeping outside and she was covered in my clothes. She looked at me with the biggest smile on her face. Really her face said it all, because she was looking at me with so much admiration and satisfaction in her eyes. It was almost like she knew it was me. She just kept staring at me and smiling. For all I know, she could have been on drugs and felt really good at that moment. Whatever the case, her smile and lookin at me like I was an angel made me feel really good. I had a very close friend since I was 4 yrs old who ended up passing away when I turned 18. I've been thinking about him a lot lately just randomly and last night I had an intense dream about him. So I wake up curious and look at some memorabilia. Then I found the paper from his funeral and he died on this very day 8 years ago. So strange! <br /><br />No matter what, you're never forgotten.
